For the first time in DumeeGamer.com history, an actual member of our crew visited Spiel Essen. When I, newbie Raymond "DuMeeple" Dumee, came barging into the DumeeGamer Headquartes in early June, they didn't know if I could do it. but I did! Four days of board games, card games, bratwurst and German beers is quite a challenge, but I managed to survive, so I think it's safe to say that I am now officially one of the team. Stay tuned as I publish new articles about my adventures at Spiel during the coming weeks. Right now, I just wants to thank each and every one of the great people I met during my Road to Spiel and at Spiel itself for their time and effort. I think it is already safe to say; Till Next Year!!!

  • FORBIDDEN GAMES

During the first day of Spiel, I visited the Forbidden Games booth, where I had the opportunity to meet Glenn Drover, designer of, for instance, the board game versions of a few of my favorite video games; Age of Mythology, Age of Empires and Sid Meier's Civilization. Now, if that isn't a good start, I don't know what is!

  • TEMBO GAMES

While everybody was hauling games at Spiel like there was no tomorrow or racing to get their hands on a copy of the most anticipated games, you could find me and a bunch of Spanish people saving the dinosaurs from extinction, somewhere in a back alley in Hall four... How, you ask? Well, by playing Kaboom Universe!

  • BLACK BOX ADVENTURES

The guys and girl from Black Box Adventures did what they promised they would do and brought two beautiful prototypes of their upcoming games with them to Spiel. That way they could show us what they have in store for 2019. Besides Itchy Monkey, this is what I really was looking forward to and I must say that I really like the results.

On one side, I am a reporter for DumeeGamer.com and on the other hand I am demoing for Keep Exploring Games on the Sunday. This is how I met the owner of the company, as well as two awesome designers!

Gamelyn Games, the creators of the Tiny Epic game series, was making the trip to Spiel with their new game Tiny Epic Zombies and an expansion for Tiny Epic Defenders called The Dark War. • AWAKEN REALMS

The Polish publishers of big miniatures games such as This War of Mine, Lords of Hellas and The Edge, Awaken Realms, had a nice booth at Spiel, which was positively filled with miniatures. For a few of these miniatures, the term 'mini' does no longer apply, but let's not linger on this fact for too long...

  • BARPIG

If there was one thing that was impossible to miss in Hall five, it had to be the Barpig booth. You just couldn't get round it. Oh wait a sec, it was also not possible to go through their booth, because it was chock full all the time. The guys were blocking the main corridor of Hall five with people trying to get in on the Barpig action!

  • GAME BREWER

I had already met the people of Game Brewer on our "Road to Spiel", where I was thoroughly impressed by their games, especially because they're such a young company. Now I am even more impressed, because I wanted to give Gugong and Festo! a try, but the Game Brewer booth was so busy that the poor guys didn't even have the time to say hi.
