When I saw the trailer of Immortal: Unchained for the first time, I thought it would be like God of War with guns. But I couldn't have been more wrong! Let me take you on my journey through the depths of dread of Immortal: Unchained and how I discovered that it was a different game than I thought which is, incidentally, not a bad thing!

Before you can start this grand adventure, you can create your own character. First you can name your character and choose to make it male or female. After that, you can select a discipline, a class if you will; and there are several options to choose from: The first one are Trackers, which are swift Hunters. The Vandals are masters of the art of destruction. The Raiders are fierce killers. You can also choose Wanderers who roam the cosmos and bravely endure its trials. If you like to fight your battles at long-range, you should choose Marksmen. And Mercenaries are warriors hardened in the fray of battle. After choosing a discipline you can change some appearance elements and then you're good to go. So, pick what suits you best and enter this world of doom and destruction!

The story of Immortal Unchained is about a prophecy which foretells about the day that the dead will rise. This event would bring war that would ravage the nine planets. This is not what you hope will happen, right? But there is some good news, because this prophecy also announces the arrival of a warrior of legends. And that's where you come in! Captured and chained, you find yourself in some sort of monolith, until one day a mysterious character sets you free. Now it is your job to unleash bloody vengeance upon the legions of the dead! And, most of all, survive this cruel world!

Immortal: Unchained is a third person shooter for the hardcore action RPG fans. Just think Dark Souls with guns! You wander through an environment with a cool a sci-fi setting; rooms with strange doors and peculiar markings on the wall. And there are corpses everywhere, so that can't be good. Soon you'll met your best friend in this game, the Obelisk. The Obelisk is the place where you can upgrade and customize your character when it comes to attributes, weapons and aspects. Using the obelisk will also save your game and, and this is very important, it will restore your health and your power attack bar.

My first encounter with enemies was actually not bad. I could easily put them down by using the first weapon I managed to find: a pistol. But alas, my hopes of being all-powerful were shattered as soon as I meet my fourth opponent. This dangerous creature was a much harder nut to crack. In other words, the game is becoming increasingly more difficult at a very fast pace! But on the bright side, I also find new weapons and money to upgrade my stats. So, I've got enough opportunities to bring this to a good end, provided I think ahead and am very, very patient while fighting this enemy...

Immortal: Unchained is a huge challenge. Every fight is a different one, so you need to find out what the best way is to slay a specific type of enemy. And every time you manage to defeat said enemy, you just want to do a little victory dance, because you feel so good about yourself! The game works great and if you are a fan of games like Dark Souls, you will be very happy with the truly challenging experience has to offer. Immortal: Unchained is an excellent strategic sci-fi challenge and, as the developers state at their website, and as they state very well: Expect no mercy!
