LEGACY OF THE BEAST

A very special app crossed my path a couple of weeks ago. Iím a very big fan of the band Iron Maiden and I was so happy to discover that theyíve a new game developed with my favorite band in it. Iím talking about Legacy of the Beast. So letís get started; before you know it, itís 2 Minutes to Midnight.

In Legacy of the Beast youíll play as Eddie, the evil band mascot. You might know him from the cd covers of Iron Maiden. Eddie has to face creatures that are even more evil then himself in this adventure. There are several worlds in this game, each with a nice Iron Maiden song reference for a name. For example, the first level is called Wicker Man.

You start this game with a normal Eddie, but whenever you complete a world and rid it from evil, youíll get that levelís boss as an Eddie character. In the first world Wicker Man, you fight the boss round against the Wicker man. When you defeat him, youíll be rewarded with a Wicker Man Eddie.

But how do you get there? As earlier said, youíll start the game with a normal Eddie. Guided by the Clairvoyant, Eddie has to travel through the evil Iron Maiden lands. Luckily for you, youíll get two minions whoíll fight at your side. You will collect more and more minions as you progress, by finding Soul Stones.

Every world has a couple of levels and each level has a couple of rounds. In these rounds youíll face one or more of the most evil creatures this world has ever seen. By utilizing a turn-based fighting system, itís up to you to finish them all. Sometimes an enemy becomes so afraid of you, that it surrenders before you deal the final blow that would have finished him off and decides to join your ranks.

There are many ways to upgrade your characters. New skills, talismans and more cool stuff are all in place to help you on your way. At the beginning of the game you can only pick two minions to bring to the battlefield, but as you progress through the game, you can unlock additional minion slots, enabling you to bring more minions to the battle.

The animations and graphics of Legacy of the Beast are really beautiful and it all looks as you would expect from an Iron Maiden game. Combined with the awesome music of Iron Maiden and all kinds of recognizable references to the band or their songs, this is a real treat for Iron Maiden fans who likes turn-based adventure games. Or turn-based adventure game fans who like the band Iron Maiden. Or... well, you get the picture. In any case, you better Be quick, or be Dead!
