It's an awesome story about how true love never dies and how a crow helps a guy who is brought back from the dead to avenge the death of his beloved. I was reminded of this movie last weekend, when I played Scéal: The Irish Folklore Adventure, the latest game by Joint Custody. In this game, a crow is the guide of lost souls and he is a big help to the spirit of a young girl.

Have you ever seen the movie The Crow? If you haven't, you definitely should watch it.

The spirit of the young girl is wandering around a quaint Irish town. She's doesn't have any memories of her mortal life and that's why she's stuck between worlds. To bring peace to her wandering spirit, she will need to figure out what has happened to her. Only then can travel to her place in the afterlife and enjoy eternal rest.

It might not be a story that's never been told before, but it's the way Scéal is designed that certainly makes this game stand out in the crowd. The game starts with the opening of a storybook, complete with lyrics in rhyme and watercolor paintings. Objects will pop up and go down again as you pass by them, there is a day and night cycle and even the weather conditions change from time to time. At some points the spirit will change its form to an angel or a banshee (Irish death messenger). I love how you guide your spirit by clicking and holding down the mouse button when your pointer is over the girl's heart and drag it in the direction you want her to go; she literally follows her heart. Together with beautiful Irish folklore music and songs, I immediately realized that this was going to be a beautiful experience.

The storybook will be your guide during the game. It shows you the map and points of interest. Every time you complete a task, the storybook will pop up, so you can read about what you just have accomplished. The book contains three playable chapters and the goal of each chapter is to explore the environment, paint the unfinished parts and bring them to life, meet a important people and receive the special missions these characters have for you. The important characters you'll meet were all somehow connected to you during the time you were alive. During these moments, you'll get to see some memories of that character. This the way to find out who you were and, in the end, what happened to you.

Scéal offers you an intense story with different endings. It takes an hour and a half to two hours to complete. If you were impressed by Journey and can't get enough of N.E.R.O., you definitely don't want to miss out on Scéal: The Irish Folklore Adventure!
