At Gamescom 2016, Dutch publisher Soedesco showed us some of their upcoming games, which were all awesome by the way! One of the games shown stood out because of its simple graphic look: Wuppo. This game is created by two Dutch guys, who develop games under the name Knuist & Perzik. Since Gamescom, Wuppo has been officially released, so we think it's about time we take you on a trip through its colorful but dangerous world!

Wuppo are tiny ball-shaped creatures who are all living together in one big house, and they couldn't be happier about it. There is even an elevator which, if you think of it, is pretty handy if you're a ball! Out of this collection of colorful characters, you're playing Wum. At the moment we enter the game, his mind is set on getting ice cream. This is going to be a great game, I can just feel it! I can totally relate to this main character and his urge for ice cream.

To let things run smoothly in that big house full of Wuppo, there is one chosen leader. He tells me to come over and collect my ice cream, because he will not bring it to me; he has more important stuff to do. But I have to promise not to make a mess and spill ice cream all over the place. Of course I will not, I'm not a grub, now am I? Unfortunately, ice cream melts. So yes, I made a little bit of a mess, but I'm sure the Wuppo leader will totally understand that this is in no way my fault. Well, let me put it this way; seconds later I have a belly full of ice cream, but I'm actually kicked out of the house for making a mess. And that's exactly where my big adventure starts; I'm outside, I'm alone and I have no clue what to do... poor me!

Wuppo is a 2D side scrolling platformer and, knowing that the developers created this world using scribbled hand drawings, it's impressive to see how something so simple can be so impressive. The game is filled with jokes which, at times, you may only fully understand if you manage to master the Dutch language. For example, there is a character who'll guide you on your adventure and can provide you with valuable information. This character is called: "De Allesweter", which best translates to "the know it all". For people who don't speak the language, it might just be a funny-sounding name, but if you understand Dutch, these jokes adds an extra funny twist to the game.

Although Wuppo may look simple, I can assure you it isn't. It's a good old platformer; jumping (and, in my case, failing to reach the other side), solving puzzles to continue your way, and taking risks to deviate from the beaten paths to reach collectibles is what this game is all about. And speaking of collectibles, Wuppo is filled with them; it's a veritable collectible buffet! Among other things, you can find film rolls, which you can take to the aforementioned "Allesweter" who, in turn, can tell you more about the past and an ancient conflict that once raged across the Wuppo world. I also managed to find a bird that I could use to receive hints or information about the world around you. This information just might help you when you get stuck during your adventure. And when I happened to meet some less than friendly creatures, I was glad that I found a gun!

Wuppo is a great game, beautifully created by people who can be more than proud after launching it and setting it free upon this world. Playing Wuppo is really a lot of fun and I would advise everybody to try it, especially when you love platform games! So what are you waiting for, help our cute looking Wum on his journey to find a new home! And maybe, just maybe, some more ice cream when you're at it?
