YONO AND THE CELESTIAL ELEPHANTS

By Diana "DumeeGamer" Dumee on October 17, 2017

When you see a shiny object falling out of the sky and it lands near to your location, would you go and investigate what that shiny thing is? Well, I certainly would! You never know what you might find. In this case, you'll find a cute little, blue elephant!

This little elephant's name is Yono and he is found by a girl called Sundara. As it turns out, they are both looking for an adventure. And since an adventure is always more fun when you can share it with someone else, Yono and Sundara decide to start looking for it together. Lucky for them, adventure is waiting right around the corner. We learn that Elephants are the mighty protectors of the world, and are only born once per millennium: So this is the age of Yono! Now, Yono is still very young and inexperienced, but evil does not wait for him to grow up, so Yono must learn on the fly.

The kingdom is filled with all kinds of evil creatures and it's up to Yono and his friends to restore it to the safe and happy place it once was. Yono can learn to use his powers from the great stories about his predecessors and all the awesome things they did. But unfortunately, those stories have been lost and the letters are spread out throughout the world levels. So when you are travelling through the Kingdom, make sure to inspect every nook and cranny for these documents and collect as many of them as you can, so you can restore the books of all mighty elephants and learn from them.

Yono and the Celestial Elephants is a colorful puzzle adventure. In order to make your way through the Kingdom, you'll need to solve a lot of puzzles. Luckily, this isn't a problem for Yono, because he has some great tricks up his trunk! He can blow air, spray water and shoot peanuts. He can also literally can use his head! He can head-butt stones and enemies that get in his way. And every place you'll visit will offer some new objects and elements to use. I must say, every time the game introduces a new feature I hear myself think: "Okay, this is cool! They can't come up with something cooler than this!" And that is exactly what I think when I visit the next piece of land and discover new powers and ways to overcome different puzzles.

Yono is more than meets the eye; he is no ordinary elephant, no sir; he is actually a divine creature. When he introduces himself to others he will often say things like: "I'm Yono and I have come here to help people and do my best to bring joy to the world." He's nice to everyone and really wants to help out those in need, even if the task doesn't seem overly important. Besides rescuing the world, I've delivered flowers and a love letter between to people who are in love with each other, but are too shy to tell it to the other one in person. I helped water gardens, delivered messages and found lost things. So I think I really did my share of good deeds today!

Things become increasingly more difficult as you progress through the game, so it's important that little Yono also becomes tougher. Scattered throughout the levels, are a bunch of heart tokens for you to find. When you have collected four tokens, you can exchange them for one brand new heart container. Apart from this, you can also unlock themes for Yono himself, so you can paint this little elephant any way you like, even with a pattern. Flowers, Star Wars inspired or a simple plain color, it's all possible.

Yono and the Celestial Elephants is an amazing adventure. The puzzles are fairly difficult and it's so much fun to solve them. Sometimes the game reminded me of the Zelda series; it's like a love letter to this franchise. Clever puzzles, a good hearted main character and a beautiful fantasy world. And through all of this, the game manages to keep its own look and feel. So ready your trunk, it's time for an adventure of elephantine proportions!
