INDIVISIBLE PROTOTYPE

By Kevin "Methodone89" van Dongen on November 19, 2015

Indivisible, Lab Zero Games' next big thing is truly amazing! Now, there's a free playable prototype available for those willing to experience a brand-new journey.

Last month, Lab Zero Games and 505 Games launched a crowdfunding campaign for their brand-new and unique RPG, Indivisible. In what might be a first for crowd-funding campaigns, they’ve released a polished and fun playable prototype, giving potential backers a taste of what they have in store for the final game.

Indivisible is inspired by classics like Valkyrie Profile and Super Metroid, but with the unique character, world, and gameplay depth Lab Zero is known for, and will feature a stunning soundtrack by legendary Japanese game music composer, Hiroki Kikuta. Indivisible is a side-scrolling RPG in the vein of Valkyrie Profile, spanning a huge fantasy world inspired by our own world’s various cultures and mythologies.

In Indivisible, you’ll control Ajna; A good-natured tomboy with a rebellious streak. Ajna was raised by her father on the outskirts of their rural hometown. Her father raised her to be fair-minded and tough, and trained her in martial arts so that she might defend their home. When their town is attacked by local warlords, Ajna discovers a mysterious power - the power to absorb certain individuals into her being. Furthermore, fusing with these “Incarnations” will not only allow her to summon them into battle, but also grant Ajna new weapons and abilities. Determined to confront the warlords and find out more about these strange new abilities, Ajna sets out on a globe-spanning quest that will reveal her true nature and much more.

You can have up to four characters in your party at any time, and in battle each character is assigned to one of your controller’s face buttons. Tapping a button makes the character in that position attack, and anyone can attack at any time as long as they have an action available. Each character has multiple attack variants and a super, allowing you to create a variety of powerful combos tailored to the battle at hand. In the playable prototype, you’ll have access to three characters other than Ajna: the archer Zebei, Razmi the shaman, and Tungar the warrior.

The playable prototype is meant to give us a small taste of what the final game might feel like. The general sense of how the game plays is there, but right now only the most fundamental mechanics have been introduced. A first playthrough will probably take you 30-45 minutes, mine took around 42 minutes and there’s even a New Game+ mode and a secret boss for you to discover! Or, as Peter Bartholow, CEO of Lab Zero Games tells us: “We anticipate that the final game will be around 20-30 hours without sidequests, so we have a lot of new battle mechanics, characters, and much more planned for the final version of Indivisible!”

The Indivisible Prototype is a fun way to be introduced to its world and it sure got me hyped for the game! Even though this was just a small portion of the final game it's clear that Indivisible will be a one of a kind RPG in which I can invest a crazy amount of time. For now there's not much more I can tell you about Indivisible, I just hope we can play the full game in the near future. The Indivisible Prototype is a well put together demo which left me hungry for more of Lab Zero's new RPG. Click here to see me, taking on the Prototype's Boss.

If properly funded, Indivisible will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and for Windows, Mac and Linux via Steam. The final product will support the English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese and Russian languages.
