This is awesome! My first review for the website, AND it is immediately about the new title from Devolver Digital, Absolver; A Kung Fu RPG with an almost-cartoony art style, action filled open world, mysterious story and a bunch of deadly weapons! Did I leave something out...? Oh yes! How about: it has the best damn melee-fighting mechanics ever!! Now, I know that Absolver has been around for a couple of weeks, but hey, don't blame me... If DumeeGamer.com asked me to join them earlier, we would have been on time... ;) Nevertheless, let's get right into the game and discover the wondrous land of Adal!

The man behind the mask.
After customizing your character you start off as a Prospect. A man or woman who took a vow to become an Absolver. Absolvers are trying to restore balance to the beautiful land of Adal. Which is unfortunately packed with bandits and other prospects gone rogue. Well, unfortunate for them that is, now that I am here!

When you enter the world after you pay attention to the tutorial (unlike me) you come across your very first foe and then you realize this isn't an ordinary fighter game. The combat mechanic is really deep! You can attack and defend facing 4 directions and each direction you face starts a different attack chain. So you have to pay attention to your enemy, see which way he is coming from and react properly. If you try to button mash the only thing that will be getting mashed is your own face!

The Land of Adal
The world isn't really big but it is filled with bad guys lurking around trying to team up on you. Secret passages leading to bosses, mini-bosses or treasure piles which contain a lot of loot like: weapons or clothes for optimizing your stats or. just to look cool? And the mysterious land of Adal is filled with other players on their own journey to become a Absolver.

Easy to learn, Hard to master
If all that wasn't enough, Absolver takes it even a step further. You start out with a bunch of basic attacks. When you face foes in the world (AI or other players) that attack you with an attack that you don't know, you will start to learn it. Countering a unknown attack successful a few dozen times will unlock it in your combat deck. You can use your newly learned attacks to customize attack-chains as you see fit. And when you master your own style and use it in the PVP arenas, you can start as a mentor of your very own fight-style school. Other players can see what you achieved using your unique style and sign up waiting for you to teach them!

PVP
There are a bunch of PVP options in this game. Either out in the world or in the dedicated arenas. As I mentioned the fighting in this game is amazing. But it is even more amazing when you beat players online in the arena. Not only do you progress towards the creation of your very own style-school, you also gain cool gear rewards from the online arena. So the other players in the world know not to mess with you! ;)

Conclusion
If you like fighter games, open world games, RPGs or if you are a die-hard Bruce Lee fan this game is the game for you! Absolver sets a really high standard for the upcoming fighter games and will really suck you in to its unique style. The combat might be difficult in the beginning but it will grow on you as you get used to it. So, to end this review, I'll leave with the wise words from one of the most awesome guys ever to have lived:

"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."
- Bruce Lee
