Have you ever dreamt of creating your very own board game? Well, during this year's Spellenspektakel you actually had the chance to do so!

Kitty is a friend of one of the organizers of the fair. She said to him: "If you are going to organize a board game fair, then I will be there to entertain the children." She is a seasoned board game collector. In her house alone there are more than two hundred and fifty board game to be found. Beside those games, she had a lot of incomplete games that she got from various places. Sure, you could throw them all away, but Kitty thought of a better purpose. What if you could use those incomplete games to stimulate the creativity of others, especially children?

During Spellenspektakel, you can find several children sitting at one of Kitty's tables, accompanied by their respective parents. There are boards, pawns, dice, paper, paint, glitter, basically everything you could possibly need to design your own board game. So, incomplete games are being recycled and for a good cause. If someone is not that into board games, they can also use parts of a board game to create a birdhouse or a photo frame. What a great way to give a new life to old games!

Kitty tells about the kids making their games and that it might be a bit more complex than they expect: "What al kids love to do is create a pawn. They design a creature or simply paste a figure out of a magazine, coloring book or they find a sticker they like. Creating a board can be exciting. Most of them make something inspired by a game they already know like the Goose Game or Monopoly. Because the hardest part is to come up with rules and especially making rules that are consistent and work well while playing. Some kids do like to be challenged and come up with a complete game. Others are more in to the decorating part, that's why Kitty also introduced birdhouses and photo frames to decorate.

Kitty has been present at the Spellenspektakel from the beginning and she's planning to continue that tradition. Not to earn money or something, just to put a smile on everyone's face. Every kid or adult is welcome at her stand. So, if you like to create your own game, maybe together with your kids, family or friends, just visit Kitty's stand. You won't find her on the internet, so be sure to visit her when the next Spellenspektakel comes around!
