SPIEL 2018: KEEP EXPLORING GAMES

« Back to Spiel 2018 report

By Raymond "DuMeeple" Dumee on November 1, 2018

What my sister, who happens to be the CEO of DumeeGamer.com, cannot know, is that I have been working as a double agent at Spiel essen. On one side, I am a reporter for DumeeGamer.com and on the other hand I am demoing for Keep Exploring Games on the Sunday. While chatting away with the owner of the Keep Exploring Games company, Martin Looij, he asked me if I would take some photos of his booth. And, if it wasn't too much trouble, if I would also take some photos when Michael Kiesling and Wolfgang Kramer visited his booth during a signing session of their Mask Trilogy? Well, what do I say to that? Of course: No problem!

Michael Kiesling and Wolfgang Kramer can be linked to many awarded games and legend says that these two heroes worked on games together, before the mobile phone and internet era, while never even having met and corresponded only by telephone and fax. This includes the Mask Trilogy they designed together. The trilogy consists of Tikal, Mexica and Java (which, due the recent restyling by Super Meeple, is now rebranded as Cusco).

Of course, normally I have no problem with staying completely professional during these kind of jobs. But, notwithstanding my usually almost inhuman restraint, I couldn't help myself and almost instantly bought the new versions of Tikal, Mexica and Cusco at the booth, pushed everybody who was already in line out of my way with the excellent excuse that I am a member of press and got them signed AND shook hands with these two great designers. Oh yes, and I also took some photos, so I kept up my part of the bargain!

Keep Exploring Gaming is the publisher of the games: Scuba and Dutch East Indies. This year, they brought a brand new board game called Tour Operator with them to Spiel as well as the restyled and republished Mask Trilogy games. Expect to see my full reviews on the Mask Trilogy games on the DumeeGamer.com website when the time is right!
