While everybody was hauling games at Spiel like there was no tomorrow or racing to get their hands on a copy of the most anticipated games, you could find me and a bunch of Spanish people saving the dinosaurs from extinction, somewhere in a back alley in Hall four. The Spanish guys and girl represented Tembo Games; a publisher from Santander, Spain and they brought their first game to Spiel, a funny little card game called Kaboom Universe!

Did I say Spanish guys? In Kaboom Universe, nationality doesn't matter, since we all play as aliens. The story is set in that time when humans where not invented yet. Together with your alien mates, you try to save as many dinosaur species as possible. There are a total of five dinosaur species in the game, so you've got your work cut out for you! When you've gathered all five species and managed to keep them alive and in your party then you're one step ahead. Why? Because, as long as you manage to keep them that way, when the KABOOM card appears from the draw pile, you win the round!

Keeping your dinosaurs alive is the biggest challenge you'll face! During your turn, you can rescue a dinosaur by playing one from your hand on to the table, play an action card or draw a card. Be careful with drawing cards though, because there's always the chance of asteroids heading your way. And now for the weather: Rainy, with a chance of meteorites. Now, we don't want that, do we? Well, there are a lot of asteroids and laser beams in the deck that will destroy your cute little dinosaurs. And even when you have managed to avoid all that, your fellow alien "friends" can even try to abduct one of your gathered dinosaurs.

If you like cute dinosaurs, asteroids, bad ass aliens, laser rays, more asteroids, intergalactic friendships and are not afraid to destroy said friendships in order to win the game? And are you looking for some fun? If so, then you'd better check out the Kaboom Universe Kickstarter, which will (at the time of writing) still be live for about two weeks.

Kaboom Universe can be played by two to ten players from the age of six years old. A game lasts about ten to thirty minutes.
