Earlier this year, our former crew member Alex "Scorpid Venom" Adriaens has bravely traveled through space to tell you all about the demo version of Filament. In the meantime, Alex has sadly left our crew, so he has more time for his family (he has a beautiful wife and daughter, so we understand his decision). Speaking of families, the developers of Filament might not have seen their loved ones for a while now, because they've been hard at work, getting everything ready for the launch of the full version of Filament. So I'll take over from Alex and will tell you all about Filament, the full game!
During last year's Gamescom, we came across the booth of publisher Deck13 Interactive. While Ferry "Sadhonker" Adams was happily hacking away at another Deck13 game called Cross Code, I was invited to enter the eerie world of a game called The Shattering, a chance which I gladly accepted. And man, am I glad that I did!
IBB & OBB
Are you ready for some gravity switching puzzle platform adventures? No? Then please go away. Have they left? Good! Well, fellow puzzle platform enthusiasts, it is time for us to make good use of the all-important physics phenomenon called gravity. Now, we all know what it does; it pulls things down. But what if there were two sides to the world? One normal side and a mirror side in which everything is upside down and gravity makes things go up?
THE WHITE DOOR
Ferry "Sadhonker" Adams and myself are big fan of the games, created by developer Rusty Lake. During last year's Indigo Event I was over the moon when I discovered the Rusty Lake booth present and accounted for. Robin Ras (co-founder of Rusty Lake) took the time to show me their upcoming games. One of the titles was The White Door and the good news is that it finally released last week!
Ever run around an abandoned space ship with a cable attached to you which helps you to solve puzzles? You haven't? Okay, I know it may sound a bit silly, right? Well, it is far from silly in Filament. In this game, you use small robots, each attached to a cable, to solve a vast selection of puzzles that are scattered throughout the various rooms of said abandoned space ship.
BLACKSAD: UNDER THE SKIN
John Blacksad is a detective who stands on the verge of undertaking his most challenging investigation of his career. Join this wiley private eye as he delves deep into the vile underworld of New York City and gets caught in a weg of violence and lies. Will he solve the case or lose himself in the process...?
THE 13TH DOLL
We thought he was gone and would never return... but we couldn't have been further from the truth. Apparently, evil doesn't stay gone forever and now our nemesis has returned to haunt our minds and, once again, test our wits and nerves. Will we finally be able to rid ourselves of his menacing presence, or will we be caught in his web of puzzles? Well, to get to the answer to that question, we'll have to go back... to the mansion!
WE WERE HERE TOGETHER
Some games are centred around cooperation. At times, we simply don't want to play a game alone, at these times, it feels good to help each other out in certain situations. Those situation demands us to communicate with each other because we are humans. Humans communicate and work together in order to achieve things we normally couldn't achieve on our own.
PREVIEW: THE BLIND PROPHET
Although I am truly in love with point and click games, I honestly didn't know anything about this title before I got the demo it and started playing. There haven't been a lot of truly awesome point and click adventures to my liking the last few months, so I'm thrilled to see if this long demo of The Blind Prophet can finally break that silence!
Inspired by true events and extensive research into religious and cultists societies, Sagebrush lets you experience the aftermath and real story behind the mass suicide of an apocalyptic Millennial cult somewhere in a deserted region near New Mexico.
MOCHI MOCHI BOY
Mochi Mochi Boy is a lovely colourful puzzle game that features loads of cuteness. This port of the game, developed by Pixelteriyaki and ported to PS4 and PS Vita, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One by Ratalaika Games, was first released on July 16th for the Ps4 and a few day later also on the other platforms. Just by looking at the pictures of this game, I know this is going to be right up my alley! It looks adorable and with all the cute chibi-faces I can't wait to play this!
Last year marked my first encounter with the gravity shifting puzzle genre in gaming, when I tried the demo for a game called Etherborn on PC. When I started playing said demo, I was simply amazed by the clever puzzles and beautiful art style of this game. Now it's time for the full release of Etherborn and I'm not going to play it on PC, but on my trusty Nintendo switch!
Do you remember being in class, back when you were like 10 years old? What did you want to be when you were growing up? Surely your teacher asked you this question at least once, am I right? How come that you almost never hear children yell: "I want to be a cabdriver when I grow up!"? Well, my friends, this might be due to the fact that this can be a very hazardous occupation...
SECRET FILES: PURITAS CORDIS (SWITCH RELEASE)
Gamers of a certain age probably remember a game series called Secret Files. The series consisted of four games that were definitely among the better ones in the point 'n click genre. The first three installments in the series were centered around Nina Kalenkov, a brave and feisty red haired girl on a mission to save the world...
SUMATRA: FATE OF YANDI
I'll come right out and say it; those among you who never played a classic point and click adventure before should really try this game on for size! Sumatra: Fate of Yandi is as classic as a point and click can be. But next to that it's a fascinating new Cloak and Dagger Games title that, once again, manages to blow my mind.
IRONY CURTAIN: FROM MATRYOSHKA WITH LOVE
Welcome to beautiful Matryoshka, comrade! Feel free to take in the sights, sample the local cuisine and, of course, pay homage to our most venerated and glorious leader. But, before you can do so, please make sure you have the necessary permits, filled out correctly, after which the glorious process of stamping them with the official seal shall begin!
WHISPERS OF A MACHINE
Have you ever wanted to be a detective; investigating grisly murder cases, questioning suspects and witnesses and, generally speaking, being a total badass? Well my friends, if your answer to this question is an unequivocal "YES", then come with me, because have I got the game for you!
SHE REMEMBERED CATERPILLARS
Two years ago I visited a neat gaming event called ScreenShake in Antwerp, Belgium. At that time, a game called 'She Remembered Caterpillars' was just released for PC and, lucky for me, was playable during this event. Naturally, I gave the game a go and very much liked what I saw. Now, two years later, not only there is a PC version of this puzzle game, but it's also making its way onto the Nintendo Switch!
I AND ME
A fun and challenging puzzle game? With super cute black kitties?? Sign me up please! When I got the chance to review this adorable title there was no doubt in my mind this was going to be an amazing journey! I had previously seen this title a few times in the Nintendo Switch store and was always this close to buying it, but then I saw different title and yeah, you know how these things go. Too bad I didn't buy it the first time though, because it is just too cute and adorable!
Why watch CSI when you can solve your own murder case? Rainswept, a murder mystery adventure game, developed by Frostwood Interactive gives you that chance. Investigate everything to find clues and solve puzzles to progress through the game. Can you solve what appears to be, at first glance, a simple murder case?
SECRET FILES TUNGUSKA (NINTENDO SWITCH)
If you were to go waaaaay back in time, say 12 years, you might see me playing - very happily, I might add - an adventure game by the name of Secret Files Tunguska. And, as luck would have it, today, November 30 2018, marks the Nintendo Switch release of this awesome point 'n click classic! More than reason enough to have another gander, wouldn't you agree?
How about we try and kickstart our brain matter back into gear with some good, old-fashioned point 'n click puzzling? Well, I say old-fashioned, but the game in question adds a few additional mechanics to the well-known point 'n click gameplay that definitely gives it an edge. Nevertheless, it's time to lose ourselves in a tale of a princess, a castle and an evil wizard. So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen; meet Tsioque.
A couple of weeks ago, on a rainy afternoon, I received a very nice email from Polish independent game studio Dali Games, in which they asked if I would be interested in checking out their latest game, Lucid Dream. I'm always up for new titles created by Indie Developers, so last weekend, on yet another rainy day, I let myself get sucked into the world of Lucid Dream.
MY BROTHER RABBIT
For me, My Brother Rabbit was actually one of the biggest surprises at Gamescom 2018. During our visit of the Polish Pavilion, I saw the logo of this game, complete with rabbit ears attached to the "A". That's when I knew I just had to play the game, because I positively love to see things that are cute and cuddly.
THE GARDENS BETWEEN
When I received an email containing a link to the first trailer of a game called The Gardens Between, I immediately knew that I wanted to play it! It's a non-violent puzzle game with a very nice atmosphere. With all the action going on in the world of games, I love to play a relaxing game once in a while. So here we go!
BACKWORLDS (PREVIEW BUILD)
During our time at this year's Gamescom, we came across a puzzle platform game called Backworlds. We played the demo quite a bit and liked what we saw. Now, only a few weeks later, it's time to delve a little deeper into the matter! A big thank you goes out to the great developers of this game, who were kind enough to send me a preview build. So, let's take a look, shall we?
We all know Tetris, the puzzle game where differently shaped blocks fall down, and you will have to make sure they all fit. Okay, and now imagine this as a platform game! Maybe not exactly the same, but it does take its roots from there. Welcome to TETRA's Escape!
A RITE FROM THE STARS
Let me start off by asking you a question; When you were a child, what did you dream of becoming? A fireman? A police officer? A cook, or even an astronaut? Well, no dream is too big for a young Makoan boy called Kirm. He has set his mind on becoming a legend! And with a little help from a guiding star that goes by the name of Hoku and his Power Meerkat friend, Kirm might just become what he always dreamed!
THE JOURNEY DOWN
What started as a small idea became a successful Kickstarter project and now the dream of Swedish game studio SkyGoblin has come true! During the months of May and June of this year, The Journey Down trilogy was released for Playstation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. So it's about time to take a closer look at this awesome point and click game, don't you agree?
Most of us will have heard the words: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" while growing up. And while this is true in most cases, a young scribe named Haimrik, who lives his, up till now, simple life in a troubled medieval kingdom, might very well be inclined to disagree... very strongly!
Now, I don't have children myself, but I can totally imagine that when your kid goes missing, it is the most terrible and terrifying thing that could ever happen. You would do anything to get your little one back and safe in your arms, am I right?
A gravity-shifting puzzle game; now that's a genre you don't hear about every day, right? So, you can imagine that I was curious to see how this works out. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to Etherborn!
THE INVISIBLE HOURS (NON-VR)
If I could turn back time... I would love that! You would never be late for work again. You would never have to choose between two activities; just do both of them. You'll always have more than enough time for a suitable comeback! Sounds excellent right?!
Let me start by offering a huge apology to the developers of Football Game. We had this game ready to play for a couple of weeks now at our DumeeGamer HQ. Ferry "Sadhonker" Adams wanted to play the game, because he is our point and click expert. But it is also an game set in the 80's, so that's why I wanted to play this game so bad...
Can you imagine what it would be like to be a glowing white cube-shaped fairy named Midnight, trapped in a grim and dangerous world and being tossed around and maimed for another man's pleasure? Well, probably not, but if you play Midnight Deluxe, you might have an inkling of what that would be like...
A game called Super Seducer should be able to really get people's attention, don't you think? The world's first seduction simulator! Creator Richard La Ruina states that it's meant to be an environment in which you can practice your flirting techniques, before trying them out in real life. So let's see if I am indeed a super seducer!
BRIDGE CONSTRUCTOR PORTAL
What is it that is usually missing from a regular bridge building game? If your answer to this question is "instantaneous transportation through space and a cunning and truly unfeeling cybernetic bully named GLaDOS" then, besides being unnecessarily precise and possibly clairvoyant, you're 100% right! Lucky for us, mere mortals, Bridge Constructor Portal is here to fix this issue!
WE WERE HERE TOO
Maybe you have heard about a game called We Were Here. It was released February 2017 on Steam as a free game and according to Project Lead Lucia de Visser, it was indented to test the waters and see how many people would be interested in a challenging cooperative adventure. The positive reactions of the gaming community blew them away, so needless to say it's time for more!
RUSTY LAKE: PARADISE
It is time to return to one of my favorite lakeside retreats: Rusty Lake. Yes game fans, Rusty Lake is back... with a vengeance! This time around, just being creepy isn't enough, no sir; the people at Rusty Lake decided it was time to up the ante and unleash the ten biblical plagues upon their world! Enter, Rusty Lake: Paradise...
LEGEND OF HAND
Legend of Hand is definitely a game you would not play every day. For me this game is kind of nice. It brings us back to a time with its graphics, sounds and styling.
I believe I can fly! Okay, okay, I know people can't, but wouldn't it be fantastic if we could? Just flap your arms and fly away? Or better yet; transform into a beautiful bird!

When you see a shiny object falling out of the sky and it lands near to your location, would you go and investigate what that shiny thing is? Well, I certainly would! You never know what you might find. In this case, you'll find a cute little, blue elephant!

Bear, are trying to find Amber's lost brother, Flint. At the same time, our dynamic duo must also try stop a madman in a red hooded cloak from burning down Paper City, so there's enough on their plates, wouldn't you say?
A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from Christian Kealoha Miller of Silver Spook Games. He told me about his upcoming game Neofeud, which is based on reflections of his own experiences as a teacher.
Do you guys remember playing Tetris back in the day? Oh you do, do you? Well, today we are going to take a look at a game which is somehow very alike to Tetris yet very different! Just like in Tetris, variously shaped blocks come raining down from above and your objective is to stack them, usually as efficiently as possible. Contrary to Tetris, however, nothing happens when you form a line. In fact, it is basically not possible to form a line from side to side...
A couple of weeks ago, I visited the Indigo Event in Utrecht (NL). One of the games I played there was an upcoming and really fun puzzle game by Dutch indie developer Dreampunks, called The Automatician. I was immediately sold because of the good looking graphics and awesome puzzles! Back then I only played the demo. Now the game has finally been released, I couldn't wait the see the full version!
What if you found a mysterious notebook that turned out to be some kind of journal from a missing party? Would you look what's inside? Maybe even start looking for clues on what happened to them? I've always pictured myself as somewhat of a great clue hunter for the FBI or something. I wouldn't be out there in the field, but trying to solve a mystery in the comfort of a nice, cozy office, or in this case, my own living room. Yup, I'm totally up for that!
What exactly is Death Squared? Well, however you look at it, it truly is a game that gives new meaning to "It's hip to be square". Yes, it is time to gather your friends, hang around on the couch together and play this awesome platform puzzle game by Australian indie developer SMG Studio, so let's get cracking!
Man, is it hot today or what? Yes, I know that this is a silly question, because you and I are probably not even remotely in the same place at this time, but trust me. It's bloody hot where I am! This is why I thought to myself: "Maybe it is time to cool off!"...
POWARGRID: MULTIPLAYER UPDATE
A couple of months ago, I got an email from the DumeeGamer HQ, asking me to take a look at a game called Powargrid; a strategy game that is completely made on Dutch soil by developer Wee Free Studio. As luck would have it, last week I once again received word of quite a big update that landed for this game!

I think I would be a great detective; I love to solve riddles and puzzles, so solving mysteries wouldn't be a problem I guess. On second thought, I would not be so keen to inspect a crime scene in the dark, cold night and maybe even put my life at risk by doing so... Damn!

100% HIDDEN OBJECTS

In my search for a new game to play, I found Time Mysteries: The Ancient Spectres on Big Fish Games. There are more games from the Time Mysteries series, but I have never played one of them. As I usually do when trying a new game, I first played the one hour trial. I can tell you right now that that one hour left me wanting more!
I've always wanted to take a look inside count Blue Beard's Castle, so here was my chance to do so. When I saw this game I was very curious and I really wanted to play it. Of course I know the story of Count Blue Beard and this only made me more anxious to play Blue Beard's Castle.
DEATH ON THE NILE & PERIL AT END HOUSE

RAHJONG:THE CURSE OF RA
Rahjong is based on the game Mahjong. It's an golden oldie`!
ENCHANTIA: WRATH OF THE PHOENIX QUEEN
This looks to be yet another very promising game by Blue Tea Developers. I have already played multiple games created by this studio and they're always fun, with beautiful graphics and enticing stories.
THE TREASURES OF THE MYSTIC SEA
In my opinion, three-in-a-row games also belong in the casual games genre. Normally I don't play these games for very long, because they usually start to bore me real quickly. Don't get me wrong, I like the concept, but often I find them a little too easy. Having said that, I have discovered a game a short while ago that really surprised me; The Treasures of the Mystic Sea. If you like this kind of game (which I do), grab your eye-patch and parrot and become a fully-fledged treasure hunter! Aaarrrrrr, me matey!
THE WHISPERED WORLD
When the future of the world hangs in the balance, a unusual hero arises! Get ready for yet another new game from Daedalic Entertainment. And what a game it is...
A new point and click adventure by the masters of this genre, Daedalic Entertainment. They recently won a price for best studio, during the German Developers Awards. I already played a couple of their point and click adventures, of which I liked Memoria best so far. Is Gomo, which is developed together with Fishcow Studio, just as fun?
SPIRIT WALKERS: CURSE OF THE CYPRESS WITCH
If you've had a busy day, it is wonderful to relax with a nice game on your phone or tablet. So sit down, put your legs up and make yourself comfortable. Because it's time for Spirit Walkers: Curse of the Cypress Witch.
