Destiny 2 is an online coop multiplayer first person shooter which I've never played it before. Luckily, this wasn't a big problem because the expansion that we're going to talk about today, also contains a brand new tutorial, aptly named the On-boarding Experience! Here you can explore a renewed CosmoDrome, with an introduction experience designed to get new players on board faster than you can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

During that introduction I met my sidekick, a floating robot named Ghost. He can tell me everything about me, the world around me and what I'm doing here. That's great because I'm taking the role of a Guardian who has been dead for the last hundred years. So, as you can probably imagine, this Guardian has a hard time figuring out what the hell is going on, so a measure of bringing me up to speed is exactly what's needed here.

So, what exactly is going on? Well, there is a war going on between Guardians and creatures which are called the Fallen. This war has been raging for quite a while now and the main goal for the Guardians is to keep Earth and the humans on it safe from extinction. To this end, players from all over the world join forces in Destiny 2, which is a free to play game for everyone to enjoy. To get access to more content, and keep you going, the developers will come up with new seasons and expansions over time.

So, that's Destiny 2 in a nutshell. I started playing because I was lucky enough to receive a review code for the latest expansion of the game, Destiny 2: Beyond Light. As I've already mentioned, there is a new on-boarding experience and I don't know how the previous one was of course, but I thought it was a really helpful way to get me up and running (and shooting) in a blink of an eye. The menus are clear and you can navigate them with the greatest of ease, especially if this is not your first video game. The only thing that still overwhelms me a bit are the quests. This is because a quest contains a couple of steps, but if you give me a quest with thirty steps, then yes, I'm impressed. and just a bit overwhelmed. But on the other hand, I do feel curious to know what is going to happen and what I need to do to complete it. And traveling through this world of Destiny 2 is definitely worth it!

In the Beyond Light expansion, a new power-source is discovered, its signal originating from a pyramid ship above Europa, a frozen moon of planet Jupiter. Guardians go to war against Eramis, the Fallen Kell of Darkness, who is determined to use the new power of Stasis to carry out her nafarious plans. Players can explore a new universe, new destinations and even use new powers! I got a taste of those new powers, because on Europa, everything is covered in snow. After visiting a certain character, I got my hands on a section of frozen wall that I could use as a shield!

Besides the expansions, there will also be a new season, called Season of the Hunt. The story campaign of this season is available since November 17. In this campaign players can participate in the exciting Wrathborn Hunt events, where they fight the Hive God of War, Xivu Arath. The launch of Beyond Light also marks a new raid, one of Destiny's most ambitious activities in which six experienced Guardians must work together closely. The Deep Stone Crypt raid launches on November 21 for anyone in possession of Beyond Light. The raid takes place in the icy landscape of Europe. With the start of the raid, the competition starts to be the first to complete the raid. The six-member fire-team not only makes history by being the first to complete it, but also receives eternal fame and title belts. Bungie will announce the winners in the days following launch through an official announcement.

And I know what console owners are thinking right now: "That's all super nice, but why should I invest in a game on current-gen, with the next-gen consoles on our doorstep?" Well, in that case, Bungie has some awesome news to share with you. Destiny 2 is coming to both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S. Purchases of Destiny 2: Beyond Light on Xbox One convert to Xbox Series X | S for free via Smart Delivery (Beyond Light is also available as part of Xbox Game Pass along with previous Shadowkeep and Forsaken expansions). Purchases on PlayStation 4 are converted to PlayStation 5 for free. Destiny 2 players can immediately enjoy the benefits of next-generation consoles, including faster loading times and cross-generation play. The next-generation-optimized version of Destiny 2 launches on December 8 and includes 4K resolution (Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5), 60 fps, field of view slider and more (Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5).

It is really awesome to see how Bungie takes care of its Destiny community and I'm happy to be part of said community. I can't wait to see what this game has in store for me in the future and I'm definitely keeping an eye out for the other expansions as well. But I have the distinct feeling this expansion and the original game will keep me busy for quite a while to come. Lucky for me, we have the holidays coming up in the foreseeable future!
