During my annual E3 trailer watching, I came across an upcoming game by independent Spanish developer, Mercury Steam. I know Mercury Steam because of their awesome Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games. Now they're back with another game for us to enjoy, Raiders of the Broken Planet! It's binga, benga, beta time!

In Raiders of the Broken Planet the Raiders are in search of an energy source called the Aleph and have occupied the Broken Planet for years. As one of these Raiders, you'll need to complete missions, but you can also play as a antagonist and try to thwart the missions of the Raiders. Playing as a Antagonist is only possible in online mode, while the Raider story missions are playable in both online and offline mode. Every mission has some nice rewards for you to earn and, if you succeed in completing a mission, these rewards can be used to customize your character. That way you can customize your Raider to your personal play style.

The Raider characters are all very cool and have their own specialty when it comes to weapons and unique abilities. During this beta I had already several characters to choose from and some to unlock. As always, they do have their own personal strengths and weaknesses, so choose wisely.

Although you can play missions solo, I have to admit they can be pretty challenging. It is at these moments that you are really happy other players can join the game. The AI is very smart and will try to flank or outmaneuver you. They really have only one goal, which is to do everything in their power to stop you from completing your mission.

I love how the game play works. The control scheme is very easy to learn, but I what I love the most about this game is how easily the character will go in and out of cover automatically. How cool is that? The only other time I saw this auto cover succeed was while playing Quantum Break. It works flawlessly and really helps you survive during missions. And that's a needful thing, because you can only be revived three times during a mission (solo campaign).

As I mentioned earlier, I know Mercury Steam from the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games and I see the comparison when it comes to the awesome looking environments and the graphic style of the characters. But, unlike in the Castlevania games, our heroes are badasses who just don't give a damn about anything except their mission. They're though, they have an attitude, they are Raiders of the Broken Planet!
