This weekend was a very good weekend to work on your Sniper, Ghost and Warrior Skills. I'm talking, of course, about the closed beta of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3. Yes, we were one of the lucky bastards who got their hands on a beta key. Binga, benga, Beta time!

The game starts with a very good instruction video which explains the techniques you'll need to make the most out of this game, like how to get the best shot. Natural circumstances like wind and rain and, of course, the state of the character who has the gun in his hands, will all have their influence on whether your shot will be a good one. So it's not just a case of simply aiming and shooting.

And even if you master these techniques, there is still more to learn. In the closed beta, we start our adventure in a car and our first objective is in a cave. No worries, it's a safe cave. It's actually a very good cave to hang out in. There is a bed so you can rest, which also restores your health. There's a workbench which lets you craft materials and ammo and a shop where you can buy the most awesome weapons. There is also a docking station. If you put your tablet device in it, you'll receive new missions.

During the beta, I could complete two missions. I chose the first one and hopped in my car to drive to my destination. Driving the car works very well, by the way. It's not hard at all to control it, even if you're off-road. I know I'm not a seasoned race game player and I also realize this is nothing compared to a modern racing game. But even then, I still can get into trouble when it comes to driving. (might be a woman thing, or it might just be me), but during this beta I was able to keep my car undamaged, not a scratch! You see, I CAN have nice things!

I can't compare this game to the previous games, because I never played one of its predecessors. I imagined that I would crawl through a lot of dirt and narrow spaces to find the perfect spot to perform the perfect head shot. But when I chose a spot that was far away enough from my target to not be seen immediately, I couldn't see any of my opponents.

Okay, so let's get a bit closer! I tried to sneak my way in, all silent-like-ninja style. Sneaking in was not the problem. The problem, ladies and gentlemen, was that as soon as I shot someone, the entire army of enemies immediately seemed to know exactly where I was. So you can imagine I didn't make it out alive. I tried several weapons, including the ones with a silencer, but every time I managed to alarm every soldier in a 200 mile range! So maybe a combination of melee and stealth attacks was the solution? I tried that, but I never managed to reach my victim, before he turned around and saw me. And yes, you might guess the outcome of this approach by now; I died.

In short; it takes some practice to become a great Sniper Ghost Warrior. It takes patience to get a decent overview the situation and decide the best approach to any given problem. And I noticed the Sniper, Ghost and Warrior skill paths in the menu, each of which offer some very useful features. So take your time, be patient and make the most out of your money, skill point and resources to become the best Sniper Ghost Warrior you can be!

The beta of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 was a nice way to see what the full game has to offer. The developers warned us, beta players, that we might experience bugs and glitches, but during the time I spent in-game, I never experienced any of that. The game runs exactly like it is supposed to. The way they chose to explain the controls and game mechanics, including the tutorial video, is awesome. The menus are crystal-clear and logical, the graphics beautiful and detailed. And while it might be true that you'll never know what makes it into the final game and what changes the developers are going to up till then, I'm sure as hell that Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 is going to be an awesome adventure for all the fans of games that require you to be extra sneaky!
