It’s been a while since we saw a Playstation 4 Exclusive title, but our patience is being rewarded! The Order: 1886 has finally arrived, and immediately sets the standard for 2015 releases. It’s one of the biggest releases for Sony this year and we couldn’t wait to get our hands on this game. Prepare for a London like you haven’t seen before, a story about trust and treason, one man’s journey to set things right… and a whole lot of quick time events.

“It is the dawn of a new age - an age of scientific marvels. Underneath the dense London fog, in the shadows of the Industrial Revolution, experience a unique vision of Victorian London where Man uses advanced technology to battle enemies both old and new that threaten to throw the city - and the world - into chaos. Watching over the city are humanity’s only protectors, an elite band of Knights known as The Order. Join a centuries-old war against a powerful threat that will determine the course of history forever.”

The Order: 1886 is created and developed by Ready At Dawn Studios, developers of Daxter, God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta. This is their first major console release and while the PSP titles were great, they’re playing in the big leagues now! So let’s see how they did, shall we?

In The Order: 1886, you’ll play as Sir Galahad, an expert tracker and hunter whose instincts and skills have been honed by years of fighting Half-breeds. Galahad keeps his head cool while he rids himself of the dangers before him. Other characters you will encounter are: Sebastian Malory, also known as “Sir Percival”; one of the oldest and most respected members of The Order. Isabeau D’Argyll, also known as “Lady Igraine”; the youngest member of The Order and apprentice to Galahad. And last but not least, Marquis de Lafayette; a seasoned war veteran. Together they form the last line of defense between us and the Half-breeds and Rebels.

The game takes place in a recreated Victorian-Era London, which features familiar places such as: the Palace of Westminster, Mayfair, Whitechapel, the Crystal Palace, Big Ben and the London tube. Though these might be familiar sights, they don’t quite look like we are used to. Instead of the traditional Victorian style, Ready At Dawn decided to go with a Steampunk theme. And man, did it pay off! The environment looks stunning and is easily one of the most beautiful settings I’ve ever seen in a game before. This alternate vision of London features new advances in technology due to an accelerated industrial revolution fueled by the centuries old war between mankind and Half-breeds. Giant airships roam the sky and you even set foot on one of these huge airships, both on top of it and on the inside.

Since you’ll have to battle against Half-breeds and rebels you’ll need quite an amount of gun power to destroy those nasty looking buggers. In this respect, The Order does not disappoint us one bit! No, no, quite the opposite; The Order delivers, well actually Nikola Tesla delivers. The weapons our brave members of The Order use are designed and manufactured by none other than Nikola Tesla himself! You can get your hands on the Arc Gun, a powerful gun with an experimental Tesla coil that shoots a focused stream of electricity. Or would you rather go for the Thermite Rifle; a light machine gun that burns through cover and fires a magnesium shot that is highly flammable. Its magazine can act as an explosive if placed and ignited. This is just a small glimpse of the weapons at your disposal. The weapons feel and look great, some weapons are really fun to blast around with, while others are needed for getting down to serious business.

The Order: 1886 tells the tale of one man’s journey to set things right as he fights against old enemies and recently discovered ones. You'll encounter many enemies both human and monster alike. Uncover a hidden secret and be prepared to suffer the consequences. Fight against friends and be stripped from knighthood. The Order: 1886 has a fantastic story and although it might sometimes feel a bit cliché, you'll still want to complete it in one go!

Next to tons of enemies, The Order 1886 has hidden quite a bit of objects for you to discover. These objects range from photos to newspapers, to audio logs and more. If you’re lucky, you’ll even find a little big friend. And I mean, come on. In this world, we could use a friendly face.

The Order: 1886 is one of the most beautiful games out there! It is the best gaming experience we’ve had in quite some time now. It may feel a bit short, but it still has an amazing story, one really worth experiencing. And if our first assessment was right, and The Order: 1886 has indeed set the standard for upcoming games, then boy, are we in for one hell of a ride!
