It's summer once again, so it's about time for another installment in the F1 game series. F1 2019 hit our mailbox just in time for last weekend. That means we can give you all the ins and outs about this game, before the release date. So, let's put the pedal to the metal and let's go fast!
Before you can get down to the business of burning some serious rubber on racing tracks around the globe, you have a lot of options to choose from. Game modes, drivers, cars. the lot!. I started with the career mode, in which you can select a team and several other options, needed to make it in the high speed world of Formula One racing. The goal is, of course, to make a splendid career for yourself in said world. A very cool part of the game (beside racing of course) is actually talking to the press. You can choose different options and be charming, professional or just plain arrogant. And, because this is a racing game and not a puzzle adventure or an RPG, the choices you make during these interviews will not make that big of a difference in the overall competition, but I think it's a nice touch to be able to respond to question in more ways than one.
Overall you have three ways to play this game: First up, there's F1 2019, the classic competition mode which offers you the official game. Featuring all the official teams, drivers and all 21 circuits from the 2019 season, this mode gives you the opportunity to prove once and for all that you are the ultimate racing champion! Secondly, there's F2 2018, in which players are able to complete the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship. And lastly, but certainly not least, fans of F1 will be very happy to hear about the Classic part of the game, in which you can get behind the wheel of some of the most famous and greatest F1 cars ever built, like the 2010 Red Bull RB6, the 2004 Ferrari F2004 and the 1978 Lotus 79.
We were lucky enough to receive the F1 2019 Legends Edition: Senna and Prost (Thank you Codemasters!), which offers you even more awesome cars and, as a bonus, will let you enter the race tracks as Ayrton Senna in his 1990 McLaren MP4/5B or Alain Prost in the Ferrari F1-90. Plus, this edition comes with exclusive and very cool Senna and Prost themed multiplayer car liveries. Now, it may not tickle your specific fancy, but fans of these two racing legends will be more than happy with this exclusive additional content!
I have to say, the developers did a really great job on creating the various drivers for this game. They really look like the real drivers that we know from the real Formula One championship. For the Dutch fans (And probably a lot of fans from other countries as well) Max Verstappen is a selectable character, so jump into your Redbull racer and hit the gas. All in all, one can only say that F1 2019 looks absolutely great! The game looks way better than any of its predecessors (as it should). The way the cars handle is super realistic (as far as I am any judge, that is. I mean, I never drove an actual F1 car before.) and it's certainly quite a challenge to keep your car on the track in those tight curves.
So, in conclusion; if you're a fan of Formula One games or even racing games in general, you should really fire this one up, because it's got everything a great racing game needs: speed, realism, awesome graphics and more than enough in the way of challenge, even for an experienced F1 enthusiast. So, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls; please start your engines and get ready to tear up the most beautiful and challenging racing tracks around in the world!
