Last year couldn't have started any better as far as I'm concerned, because January 25, 2019 saw the release of the long awaited new installment in one of my favorite game series. Yes, after waiting for what seemed like forever, I was finally able to play Kingdom Hearts III! I was so looking forward to this game and super happy to enjoy a brand new adventure with Sora, Goofy, Donald and all my other well-known friends. And of course I was also curious to see which new Disney characters would make an appearance. I think I speak for all of the fans of the series that we were definitely not disappointed, except when we finished the game and there was nothing left to do.

But have no fear, the story continues. The developers at Square Enix must have felt our pain and have now brought a brand new and exciting DLC for Kingdom Hearts III, the Re Mind DLC. This awesome piece of adventure will only unlock after you have finished the main story of the game (which I do expect you have, since you had a whole year to do so). The Re Mind DLC expands this magical world even further, so let's see what's up with Sora and the rest of our colorful friends!

As already mentioned, you'll need to have a completed Kingdom Hearts III game before you can access the Re Mind DLC. Now, assuming you have, you can start a new episode with our protagonist, Sora, in which he can experience battles from the perspective of his friends and discover new truths along the way. And although this was a nice addition to the story, I'll have to be honest with you; I personally would have loved to see them continue the story as is and just create an extra chapter or something. But, on the other hand, it was also fun to get some additional insights about the story that I already know.

Here's a question for you: Did you enjoy the boss battles in Kingdom Hearts III? Then here's some good news for you! The Re Mind DLC offers you the chance to go head to head against various powerful bosses, including the thirteen boss battles of the Limitcut Episode and a boss battle in the Secret Episode. This is an excellent way to show an alternate reality in which Sora relives some key moments in the game via cutscenes, after which an epic boss battle follows! I thought it was totally awesome and some fights are super challenging (and I've set my game on the normal difficulty).

The Re Mind DLC makes it possible for the player to adjust the game to fit their needs. If you open your save game and enter the premium menu, you can adjust the game's difficulty beyond the standard settings, using Fast Pass and Black Code options. The Fast Pass options can make your game easier. For example: by using the Dead Blow, you can now defeat enemies with one hit. However, certain enemies and bosses are immune to this effect, so beware! The Black Code options are meant to spice things up and make your adventure even more challenging. Can you imagine playing the game without having the option to use cure magic or items during battles? The Premium Menu will also offer you some new challenges to complete like, for instance, the Ice breaker Challenge in which you'll have to freeze and shatter 30 enemies in one battle!

And, last but not least, players can now enjoy the brand new Data Greeting Mode. This mode lets you choose locations, objects and, of course, your favorite characters from the game and stage them however you like. The results of your efforts will be added to the slideshow function in the game menu. You can change poses and expressions per character and add screen effects, so the possibilities are (almost) endless. Whenever you're satisfied with a scene, you can take a picture from any position you like. It was definitely fun to play around with and, if I may say so myself, I created some very nice pictures.

I was lucky enough to be able to watch The Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind + Concert Video package, which includes not only all of the awesome Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind content, but also video footage of the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World of Tres concert that was recorded in Osaka on November 30, 2019. Let me conclude by saying it was a privilege to play and enjoy this DLC and I think it's a truly worthy addition to an already magnificent game!
